Cryotherapy (Cold Therapy) in Indirapuram
Cold therapy reduces pain and can help limit swelling after acute injury. It's simple, cheap and effective for short-term relief. Current thinking has moved away from prolonged icing for every injury, so the dose and timing matter more than people realise.
What cold does
Cooling the skin and underlying tissue slows nerve conduction, which reduces pain. It narrows blood vessels, which may limit swelling early after injury. The numbing effect makes movement more comfortable for a short time.
How we use it
Ice packs, cold compression devices and ice massage are used after acute sprains and strains, after joint replacement and knee surgery, and for painful flare-ups. We recommend around 10 to 15 minutes at a time with a cloth between ice and skin.
Research suggests prolonged icing may not speed healing and might slow some parts of it. So we use cold mainly for pain relief and early swelling control, combined with gentle movement and gradual loading.
Whole-body cryotherapy chambers are a separate thing, with limited evidence. Please confirm with the clinic before booking if you're asking about a specific cold therapy device.
Safety
Don't apply ice directly to skin. Avoid cold on areas with reduced sensation or poor circulation, in Raynaud's phenomenon, cold urticaria, or over superficial nerves for long periods. Check the skin regularly.
Medical note
This page is general information, not a diagnosis. Treatment is planned after an in-person assessment by a physiotherapist, and we refer you to a doctor where symptoms need medical review first. If you have sudden weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, chest pain or severe unexplained pain, seek emergency care.
