Down Syndrome Physiotherapy in Indirapuram
Children with Down syndrome often have low muscle tone and loose joints, which can make motor milestones like sitting, crawling and walking take longer. Physiotherapy helps build strength, balance and confidence so children can move, play and participate fully.
Why motor development differs
Low muscle tone (hypotonia) and loose ligaments make it harder to hold positions and control movement. Children may compensate in ways that feel easier short term, like sitting with legs wide apart or walking with a wide base, which can affect alignment later.
Therapy goals
Physiotherapy supports head control, rolling, sitting, crawling, standing and walking, and later running, jumping, stairs and playground skills. Therapy is play-based and focuses on building strength and control in good alignment.
Parents do much of the work at home through daily activities, which we help structure.
Health considerations
Some children with Down syndrome have instability in the upper neck (atlantoaxial instability), heart conditions or other health concerns that may influence activity choices. We work with your pediatrician to make sure activities are safe.
Staying active through childhood and adulthood supports fitness, weight management and social participation.
Exercises often used for Down Syndrome
These are exercises our physiotherapists commonly include. Which ones suit you, how many and in what order depends on your assessment and stage of recovery.
Medical note
This page is general information, not a diagnosis. Treatment is planned after an in-person assessment by a physiotherapist, and we refer you to a doctor where symptoms need medical review first. If you have sudden weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, chest pain or severe unexplained pain, seek emergency care.
