Ankle Dislocation Physiotherapy in Indirapuram
An ankle dislocation is when the bones of the ankle joint are forced out of position. It's almost always accompanied by fractures or serious ligament damage and requires emergency treatment. Recovery is long and rehab is central to it.
An emergency first
A dislocated ankle looks visibly deformed and is extremely painful. It needs urgent reduction in hospital to protect blood supply and nerves. Most are fracture-dislocations and need surgery to stabilise the joint.
Rehabilitation
Rehab usually follows the timeline for a complex ankle fracture. After a period of protection and restricted weight bearing, we restore range of motion, reduce swelling, rebuild calf and foot strength and retrain walking and balance.
Because the injury is severe, stiffness and ongoing swelling are common and recovery often takes six months or more. Some people develop ankle arthritis later, which makes long-term strength and mobility work worthwhile.
Return to high-impact sport depends on recovery and surgeon guidance. Many people return to walking, work and lighter activities fully.
Exercises often used for Ankle Dislocation
These are exercises our physiotherapists commonly include. Which ones suit you, how many and in what order depends on your assessment and stage of recovery.
Medical note
This page is general information, not a diagnosis. Treatment is planned after an in-person assessment by a physiotherapist, and we refer you to a doctor where symptoms need medical review first. If you have sudden weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, chest pain or severe unexplained pain, seek emergency care.
