Muscle and Tendon Conditions

Muscle Injuries Physiotherapy in Indirapuram

Muscle injuries range from minor strains that settle in days to significant tears that take months. The approach to healing is similar across muscles: protect early, load progressively and return to activity based on function, not just time.

Types of muscle injury

Strains happen when a muscle is overstretched or overloaded, often at the junction between muscle and tendon. Contusions come from direct blows. Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), the ache after unfamiliar exercise, isn't an injury, though it can feel like one.

Strains are commonly graded one to three, from mild overstretch to complete tear.

Early management

In the first few days, protect the area from aggravating activity, use compression and elevation for swelling, and move gently within comfort. Complete rest for too long can slow healing.

Progressive loading

Muscles heal best with gradual, appropriate loading. We start with gentle activation, progress to strengthening through increasing range, and then to faster, sport- or work-specific movements. Flexibility is restored gradually. We also look at why the injury happened, such as training load, fatigue or technique, to reduce recurrence.

Most minor strains recover within one to three weeks. More severe tears may take six to twelve weeks or longer.

Exercises often used for Muscle Injuries

These are exercises our physiotherapists commonly include. Which ones suit you, how many and in what order depends on your assessment and stage of recovery.

Medical note

This page is general information, not a diagnosis. Treatment is planned after an in-person assessment by a physiotherapist, and we refer you to a doctor where symptoms need medical review first. If you have sudden weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, chest pain or severe unexplained pain, seek emergency care.

How do I know if it's serious?
Severe pain, significant swelling, bruising or inability to use the muscle warrants assessment.
What are Muscle Injuries?

Muscle injuries include strains, tears and bruises that damage muscle fibres.

What causes Muscle Injuries?

Common causes include sudden stretching or contraction, direct blows and overuse.

What are the common symptoms of Muscle Injuries?

Common symptoms include pain, swelling, bruising and weakness.

How are Muscle Injuries diagnosed?

It is usually diagnosed with clinical examination; ultrasound or MRI for severe injuries.

To restore strength and flexibility and return to activity.

What treatments may be used for Muscle Injuries?

Treatment usually combines exercises such as hip adduction and adductor stretch with cryotherapy (cold therapy), ultrasound therapy and dynamic compression therapy. Hands-on treatment, education and activity advice are added as needed, and the plan changes as you progress.
